This couple contacted me about 6 weeks before their wedding. They had a friend that was going to officiate for them but it turned out he wouldn't be able to be there for the rehearsal. They came to me for help organizing their wedding and explaining what to do at a rehearsal. In the end, they had me officiate the wedding and lead the rehearsal. It was a great experience. The bride was Jewish and the groom atheist. The bride's family wanted a few Jewish traditions. We all signed a Ketubah, which is a Jewish wedding contract. It's an made to order work of art. I loved seeing that. They also wanted to break a glass at the end. For all those who are wondering, it's very difficult to break a glass, use light bulbs in a cloth bag instead. We also included The 7 Blessings for a Jewish Wedding which are actually perfect for just about any wedding. The blessings are not religious, they are centered on family, married life and being part of your community. Both of the bride's parents escorted her as that is also a Jewish tradition. The Bride and Groom actually had a lot of fun planned in their wedding among the seriousness and tradition. They included Adam Sandler's "Grow Old With Me." I also got to use the quote “Mawage is wat brings us togeder tooday” Jewish-Atheist Wedding Ceremony Script Welcome! Family and friend of Bride and Groom! All I Want Is You by Barry Louis Polisar If I was a flower growing wild and free All I'd want is you to be my sweet honey bee. And if I was a tree growing tall and green All I'd want is you to shade me and be my leaves. All I want is you, will you be my bride Take me by the hand and stand by my side All I want is you, will you stay with me? Hold me in your arms and sway me like the sea. If you were a river in the mountains tall, The rumble of your water would be my call. If you were the winter, I know I'd be the snow Just as long as you were with me, when the cold winds blow. If you were a wink, I'd be a nod If you were a seed, well I'd be a pod. If you were the floor, I'd wanna be the rug And if you were a kiss, I know I'd be a hug If you were the wood, I'd be the fire. If you were the love, I'd be the desire. If you were a castle, I'd be your moat, And if you were an ocean, I'd learn to float. All I want is you, will you be my bride Take me by the hand and stand by my side All I want is you, will you stay with me? Hold me in your arms and sway me like the sea. We have come to join Bride and Groom in marriage, to be with them, and rejoice with them, in the making of this highest level of commitment. The essence of this commitment is the taking of another person in his or her entirety as lover, companion, and friend. It is therefore a decision not to be made lightly, but rather undertaken with great consideration and respect—for both oneself and the other person. Love is one of the highest experiences that we, as human beings can have. It is a wondrous gift. It adds depth of meaning to our lives. The sensual part of love is one of life’s greatest joys. When this is combined with real friendship, both are infinitely enhanced. We are here then today to celebrate the love that you two have for each other, and to give social recognition to your mutual decision to accept each other into the state of matrimony. That, of course, means it’s time for the good stuff! Are you ready to exchange your vows? Please face each other and join hands. This is your moment, take a deep breath and be in the moment and enjoy it. Please repeat after me: I, Groom, take you Bride, to be my wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until death do us part. I, Bride, take you Groom, to be my husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until death do us part. The rings please: Groom, repeat after me: I give you this ring to wear with love and joy. As a ring has no end, neither shall my love for you. I choose you to be my wife this day and forevermore.” Bride, repeat after me: I give you this ring to wear with love and joy. As a ring has no end, neither shall my love for you.
