Spiritual Readings for a Wedding Ceremony Script With PDF's
As a Professional Wedding Officiant, I’ve found that many couples are not longer interested in the religions of their youth. That’s why they hire me instead of having their parent’s pastor or priest marry them. They don’t want to be hypocritical. They do, however, want to include something “spiritual” in their ceremony out of respect for family members that do hold deep religious convictions.
I always encourage couples to be honest in their wedding ceremony. If there is any day you should be completely honest, it’s your wedding day. You are making a lifetime commitment. Whatever it is, be honest and truthful. My husband and I have been married of 27 years. Honesty, no matter what your truth is, it always the best policy. It’s just easier!
Spiritual Readings and Blessings often have the same intent as a Religious reading or Blessing.
My thought is this, during your wedding ceremony, talk about love. God is Love. If there are religious people looking for God they will find it when we talk about love. If they aren’t looking for God, they will just hear about love, which is what your marriage is based on. Love is present in every religion and culture. You might love an Apache Blessing or a Buddhist prayer. You don’t even have to call it by it’s name. You can just use the prayer itself to express the feeling you want. You can also change out some words to make them more neutral.
“May the spirit of love be with us today as Bride and Groom are joined in marriage.” Is a more neutral sounding invocation or prayer but it expresses the same feeling for the religious or non-religious.
I hope you find the inspiration you are looking for to create your perfect ceremony.
